JANETTE STORRIE CLARK

Janette Storrie Clark (nee McKay), 78, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 at the Rainy River Health Centre after a brief illness.
Janette was born March 16, 1937, in Paisley, Scotland, the younger of twin girls born to Peter and Bessie McKay.
She spent a short time in South Africa before immigrating to Canada in April, 1957 to be closer to her older sister, Elizabeth. She worked at various companies, including Honeywell and the CBC.
She was united in marriage to James George Clark in February, 1958.
After the birth of their daughter, Mary, in November, 1963, Janette mainly was a stay-at-home mom, but did volunteer work on the PTA and at the school library in West Hill, Ont., near Toronto.
The family moved to Gondola Point, N.B. in 1977.
James and Janette parted in 1980. She later entered a relationship with Stanley Emerson and enjoyed 10 happy years of life until his sudden passing in 1992.
Janette continued to work at various jobs at the local community college in Saint. John, N.B. and finally settled into the Comfort Inn/Journeys End Hotel in Saint John as an evening front desk person.
After Stan’s passing, Janette transferred to Trenton, Ont. with the Comfort Inns chain. Unfortunately, a series of illnesses forced her to retire in 2008 and she then moved to Rainy River in June of 2009 to be close to her daughter, Mary.
Janette loved to garden and try out new plants. Her favourite saying was “Grow, grow or out the window you go!”
She also loved to knit, go to concerts, and get dressed up in gowns and elbow-length gloves. But her biggest passions were chocolate, listening to Pavarotti, and voraciously devouring books from the library.
Janette was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Bessie; her eldest sister, Elizabeth (Mike) Marsbergen; brother, Peter McKay; twin sister, Morag (Bert) McLay; and husband, Stan.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary Withers of Pratt Township, Ont.; niece, Jenny Coutts and children, Tom and Ellie; and nephews, Sinclair McLay and Fraser (Lesley) McLay and daughter, Kathy, all of Scotland.
Many will miss her quick smile, sharp wit, and distinctive Scottish brogue.
As per Janette’s wishes, no public funeral service will take place.
