It is with great sadness that the family of Polly Basaraba announce her passing on Sunday, July 12, 2015.
Polly was born to Ann and Mike Filewich on Sept. 14, 1924 on the family farm in the Hillsburg Municipality, near Roblin, MB.
Polly obtained her teaching degree and taught in many one room school houses in rural Manitoba.
She married Peter Basaraba on Aug. 6, 1950 and moved to Fort Frances where she continued to teach.
She is survived by her children, Patricia and Al (Laurel); and grandchildren, Matt, Kate (Troy) and Joe.
Also surviving is her brother, Joe (Janet) Filewich; brother-in-law, Omer Ouellette; and sister-in-law, Helen Filewich and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; brother, Charlie Filewich; and sister, Mary Ouellette.
In her early years, Polly was active in many sports and in later years she shared her love of sports playing many games with her grandchildren. Polly (Baba) enjoyed her grandchildren’s many activities and rarely missed an opportunity to watch them or share her love of crafting with them.
A grave side service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, at 1 p.m. at the J.A. Mathieu Columbarium in Riverview Cemetery.
