MARY BOMBAY (Gimiwanok Bizhiw Clan)

Mary Bombay, 74, of Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation, Ont., passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
She was born April 8, 1940 in Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation to Mae and Paul Jourdain.
She graduated from Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Mn., then attended Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont., receiving her Native Language degree.
She worked for the Rainy River District School for many years and enjoyed her time with the students.
She loved playing Bingo, cards, listening to ’50/’60s music, and watching game shows. Mary also loved the outdoors, spending much of her free time at the lake.
Everyone who knew her enjoyed her humour and story-telling.
She leaves behind her sons, Laverne Bombay, Richard Murray (Phoebe), and Leonard Critchley; and grandchildren, Jayden, Craig and Curtis Crtichley, Brian, Cara, and Erin Murray, and Kiera Kurys.
Also surviving are her sister, Margaret (Lynn) Norris; brother, Robert Jourdain; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; sons, Morris Kurys and Ernie Kurys; infant daughter, Angel; and siblings, Elroy, Norman, George, Richard, Scott, and Adolph.
A traditional wake will be held Friday, March 20, 2015 from 3 p.m. at the Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation Community Centre, with a funeral service to follow in the morning.
Interment will take place at the Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be her family and community members.
The honourary pallbearers will be Patsy Allan, Marie Allen, Jim Windego, Eleanor Perreault, Nancy Jones, and Helen Torrfin.
