IVEN W. ASPLUND

Iven W. Asplund, of Grand Rapids, Mn., passed into Eternal Life on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 following 85 years with family and friends.
Iven was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on Aug. 1, 1929 to John and Annie Asplund.
Iven began his work career as a machine shop apprentice with Mando paper, spent several years in the machine shop of northern Manitoba mines, attained a degree at Gustavus Adolphus College, and later returned to Fort Frances to teach machine shop at the high school.
He then retired from Inland Steel’s Minorca mine after years as a millwright and machinist.
During his teaching years, Iven married Lalah Alexander Bocnuk of International Falls, Mn. They shared a beautiful life together, enjoying downhill and cross-country skiing, grilling with family and friends, and golfing.
Iven and Lalah were nearly inseparable on the golf course, playing the game together until late in life.
Lalah passed away in 2009.
Iven is survived by his children, Debby (Todd) Bocnuk Roswold, Brent (Cheryl) Bocnuk, and Jonas (Maria) Asplund; and grandchildren, Bill, Ben, Lacey, and Joshua.
Iven is remembered as a family man, a gentleman and a scholar, a man of faith, a man with a unique sense of humor, and an avid golfer.
A co-worker, years ago, thoughtfully penned, “Ah, Sir Iven of Britt with his knowledge and wit. There’s none on the Range can compare with his wisdom so grand . . . give proper respect The nobleman elect The Esquire, Sir Iven of Britt.”
Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Mn.
A memorial service will follow, with Rev. Megan Crouch officiating.
