DARLEENE LaBELLE

Sadly, the family announces the passing of Darleene LaBelle, 79, on Saturday, May 3, 2014, with her family by her side, at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Darleene was born Sept. 28, 1934 to Hugo and Dorothy Larson, and grew up in Rainy River District.
She worked at Larsen’s Camp in Nestor Falls, Ont., where she met Ted LaBelle and later married on March 21, 1952. They raised six children.
Darleene and Ted moved to Sapawe, Ont., where they built a trailer park. Darleene then began working as head cook for the Domtar Camp# 111.
They later purchased the Sapawe Restaurant, which they operated for several years.
Darleene and Ted then moved to Atikokan, Ont., where she joined the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a member for more than 32 years, serving as president for several years.
After Ted’s passing in 1992, Darlene met Sam and they spent many years together. After Sam passed away, she relocated to Thunder Bay, where she remained until her passing.
Darleene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Darrouel LaBelle (Terry) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Dennis LaBelle (Suzan) of Atikokan, Ont., Debbie Gummow (Peter) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Shelly Gushulak (Eddie) of Atikokan, Ont., Cindy LaBelle (John) of Alberta, and Wendy Rosengren (Tim) of Emo, Ont.
She also will be sadly missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Darleene also is survived by her sisters, Jill Peresola and Carol Larson of Alberta; and brothers, Ernie Larson of Atikokan, Ont. and Ron Larson of eastern Ontario.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Dorothy Larson; husband, Ted; and two grandchildren, Teddy Statnick and Ashley LaBelle.
A time of fellowship will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo, Ont.
Interment will take place in the Emo Cemetery.
