SADIE KOWALCHUK

Sadie Kowalchuk, 92, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
She was born Sept. 13, 1921 in Buchanan, Sask. to William and Mary Ossachuk. The family moved to Fort Frances when she was a young girl.
She was married to Mike Kowalchuk on July 28, 1943.
Sadie was a lifetime member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and of the St. Anna’s U.W.A.C. She enjoyed singing in the Fort Frances Community Choir.
She also worked in various stores, and enjoyed spending time at the cabin with family and travelling.
Sadie is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband, Al Rajala; son, Mark Kowalchuk and wife, Donna, of Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Jeffrey and wife, Tara, of Fort Frances, Ont., Lesley and wife, Carolyn, of Toronto, Ont., Patrick and partner, Chelsey, Michael and partner, Katie, and Kevin and partner, Kumud, all of Dartmouth; and great-grandchildren, Lilianna, Aidan, and Cole.
Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, June Kowalchuk and Bertha Ossachuk, both of Fort Frances, Ont., and Mary Pawlick of Arnprior, Ont; brother-in-law, John Duchnicki of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Mark (Mike); brothers, John and George; sisters, Lena and Edith; and brothers-in-law, Stan Dolyny, John Kowalchuk, and John Pawlick.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 from 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, with Fr. Lakusta officiating.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers will be Patrick Kowalchuk, Michael Kowalchuk, Jeffrey Rajala, Rustyn Dolyny, Johnny Lundon, and Paul Dolyny.
