It is with great sadness that the family of Sherlie Jona Klaas announces her passing on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Sherlie was born Oct. 8, 1943 in Esterhazy, Sask. to Gisli and Gertrude Anderson.
She married Bob Klaas on Oct. 5, 1990.
Sherlie attended high school in Fort Frances before moving to Thunder Bay, Ont., where she began her career as executive assistant with the Lakehead Association for Community Living.
Later in Fort Frances, she continued her career as executive assistant and co-owner of RK Projects of Fort Frances up to the time of her passing.
Sherlie volunteered extensively through out her life; most recently as a member and a volunteer of the Fort Frances Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and at the seniors’ home in Fort Frances.
Sherlie had many, many freinds and was well-respected by all who knew her. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt.
Because of Bob’s work, they travelled and lived in many locations throughout their time together. They worked and lived in Winona, Mn., Milwaukee, Wis., Vancouver, B.C., and Winnipeg, Man. before settling and setting up business in Fort Frances.
The business of building and repairing roads and bridges required Bob to do extensive travelling throughout Northwestern Ontario. But Sherlie always would be by his side to help drive and assist in the administration of their business.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Bob; son, Steve (Shelley) Gosselin and her grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer; mother, Gertrude (Norris) Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister, Helen (Mike) Andrusco of Fort Frances, Ont. and their children, Mike (Carrie), Benjamin (Sherry), and Anthony (Missy); brother, Oliver (Judy) Anderson of Thunder Bay, Ont. and their children, Lorelei (Dennis), Mike (Michelle), and Krysta (Phil); as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
She also will be sadly missed by her step-children, Janice (Gary) Gummeson and their children, Greg and Kate, Robbie (Chrissy) Klaas, and Susan (Gary) Prezio, all of Thunder Bay, Ont.
She was predeceased by her father, Gisli Magnus Anderson, on July 14, 2003.
A celebration of Sherlie’s life will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Sandy McEvoy officiating.
The honourary pallbearers will be Michael Andrusco, Benjamin Andrusco, Anthony Andrusco, Lorelei Anderson Wood, Mike Anderson, Krysta Tremblay, Matthew Gosselin, and Jennifer Gosselin.
In memoriam donations may be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, or Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
