It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Carter.
Kevin passed away in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at the age of 55.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years, Tanis; his devoted daughters, Kirstie and Katie; sisters, Cheryl (Cliff) Hagen, Tammi (Donnie) Foster, and Norine (Kyle) Vogt; and brother, Rob (Jody) Carter.
Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Steinunn Einarson; sisters-in-law, Shirlee (Kris) Anderson, Dolores (Danny) Zinter, and Cindy Einarson; brothers-in-law, David (Carol) Einarson and Danny (Tammy) Einarson; uncle, Morris (Edith) Carter; aunt, Allison (Lloyd) MacAulay; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stewart and Elizabeth Carter; father-in-law, Stefan Einarson; and grandparents, Jack and Lillian Carter, and Elwyn and Elizabeth Clark.
Kevin was born May 30, 1958 in Selkirk, Man. He spent his early years in Petersfield, Man., attending school in Teulon.
When Kevin was 14, the family moved to Off Lake, Ont. and he attended Fort Frances High School in Fort Frances, Ont.
In 1982, Kevin made his way to Winnipeg, Man., where he enrolled in Red River College, achieving his welding degree before starting his life-long career with the Canadian National Railway, where he was an active union leader.
Kevin married the love of his life, Tanis Einarson, on Sept. 8, 1984. They had two daughters, Kirstie and Katie.
Kevin had many passions. He had a vast knowledge of dogs but had a true love for boxers. He got his first boxer in 1985, which led to a long-lived hobby of raising and showing dogs while helping found The Manitoba Boxer Club and acting as treasurer for several years.
Many of his other passions included travelling, music, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time outdoors, but family was always the most important thing to him.
His dream was to retire with his family on Vancouver Island.
Kevin was a very kind and generous person, always thinking of others before himself. He made many friends throughout his life, and they all were very special to him.
Kevin was overwhelmed with all the love and support he received during his last few months.
Kevin, you will be missed and always hold a very special place in our hearts, especially your three girls. We love you forever.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Dieppe Room at The Royal Canadian Legion at 3600 De Vries Ave. in Winnipeg.
If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to Children’s Wish Foundation or The Manitoba Boxer Club c/o Bev Pope, P.O. Box 164, Carberry, Man., R0K 0H0.
