It is with great sadness in their hearts that the family of Dennis “Spig” Perreault announces his passing on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Dennis was born Feb. 13, 1946 to George and Teresa Perreault.
On Nov. 5, 1966, Dennis married his childhood love, Judy (nee Jourdain).
Throughout his life, Dennis was employed at various jobs in Fort Frances, International Falls, Thunder Bay, and Couchiching, most recently as the cemetery caretaker at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Dennis had a love for the outdoors, whether it was happily maintaining the cemetery, keeping his own yard beautiful, puttering around the cabin, boating along the North Arm, or just sitting and enjoying the scenery around him.
He also enjoyed sports—playing ball in his younger years, as well as watching NHL hockey and NFL football.
The people in his life were his greatest joys, however. He loved taking trips with his wife and his sister and brother-in-law to the casinos; he gave so much of his time to listen to and to guide his children into adulthood; and his grandchildren brought great joy and pride to him as he celebrated each of their successes—in Grade 8 and 12 graduations, in new jobs, in hockey and soccer games, and in their varied accomplishments.
He always had time for his family and friends, and often could be seen laughing with them.
Dennis was predeceased by his father, George; brother, Douglas; father-in-law, Sam, and mother-in-law, Maggie; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Duke), William, Riley, Russell, and Wilf; and nephews, Jeffrey, Timothy, and Nathan.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his mother, Teresa; children, Douglas (Shannon), Denise (Mark), and Grant; grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica), Justin (Allison), Brendin, Tori, Abbigail, Sydney, Koda, and Wyatt; and great-grandson, Hayden.
Also surviving are special friends, Deidre (Keifer, Zane, and Logan) and Michelle (and her son, Cooper); siblings, Ann, Genny (Glenn) and Greg (Pauline); sisters- and brothers-in-law, Josephine, Raymond (Mary), Verna (Wayne) and Linda; and numerous special nieces and nephews, with whom he also shared strong bonds.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 from 7-8 p.m. at Green’s Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with prayers at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Couchiching First Nation.
Cremation to follow and interment at a later date.
The pallbearers will be Shawn Jourdain, Michael Jourdain, Darren Morrisseau, Kevin Morrisseau, Cory Morrisseau, and Darren Foster.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren and his great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Arthritis Society.
