IRWIN MORPHET

Irwin Morphet, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.
Irwin was born Jan. 28, 1928 to the late Richard and Louise (nee Herman) Morphet, and was raised, lived, and worked in the Emo area all of his life.
On June 27, 1947, Irwin married his soulmate, Jeannie Tribe, and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Irwin worked at Boise Cascade until May, 1990, at which time he retired after 39 years of service. After completing a list of retirement projects, he then went to work for the Township of Emo for 10 years.
Irwin was an avid curler from his youth and into his senior years, winning many bonspiels over this period. Each bonspiel was a memory in the making with a new tale to tell, especially in March, 1969 when he won the Emo Mixed while his youngest daughter was being born.
He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and it was always a challenge for his opponents to win.
Growing up, he acquired a love for music and played the banjo, fiddle, and occasionally the guitar with his brother, Edwin. Recently, his instrument of choice was the tambourine, which he played with the group at the Golden Age Manor and the local “Country Jam” sessions.
Over the years, he and Jeannie travelled throughout Canada and to Minnesota visiting family, relatives, and friends. There was nothing Irwin wouldn’t do for anyone, and was available to fix anything and was always up for a new challenge.
He was a wonderful man, loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
Irwin is survived by his wife, Jeannie; two daughters, Judy Morphet of Toronto, Ont. and Pam (David) Cowlishaw of Mountain Iron, Mn.; and two beautiful granddaughters, Kaitlyn, 17, and Kalleann, 12.
He also is survived by his sister, Melva (Milo) Redbourn of Winnipeg, Man.; brother, Edwin (Shirley) of Brossard, Que.; sisters-in-law, Betty Morphet of Kenora, Ont. and Harriet Morphet of Atikokan, Ont.; and brothers-in-law, Moe Tribe (Ev) and Doug Tribe (Lorriane), of Atikokan, Ont., and Ed Tribe (Eleanor) of Nanton, Alta.
Irwin also was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Louise; in-laws William and Jeannie Tribe; an infant son; brothers, Melvin, Alan, Herman, and Elmer; and brother- and sister-in-law, Raoul and Gordie Cayer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment in Emo Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Jerry Allan, Jim Cowlishaw, Frank Curtis, Lyle Gill, Larry Jack, and Dean Woolsey.
The honourary pallbearers were Corey Curtis, Dean Morphet, Rick Morphet, and Tom Morphet.
