RAOUL JOSEPH CAYER

Raoul Cayer passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, with his family by his side, at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont.
Dad was born July 28, 1918 in Lenacre, Sask. In his late teens, he moved with his family to Vassar, Man., where he met and married Blanche Beaucage in 1939.
Raoul and Blanche had two daughters, Della (1942) and Julie (1944).
Dad enlisted in the army in 1943 and was deployed to Europe from 1944-46. He was a lifetime member of the Emo Legion Br. #99.
After returning to Canada, the family moved to Arbor Vita, Ont. for three years, then moving to the Mando Camp near Nestor Falls, Ont. Later, Dad bought his pride and joy business, “Raoul’s Esso,” in Emo, Ont.
Raoul was a stock car driver for many years, receiving many trophies. He also was presented with the Stock Car Hall-of-Fame plaque a few years ago.
He enjoyed community work, curling, golfing, and woodcarving. Dad also loved people, good times with family and friends, especially at the cottage, and travelling throughout Canada and USA.
Dad remarried in 1976 to Gordona Littlefield until her passing in 2002. He adored his extended family, stepchildren, Terry (Karen) Littlefield and Cheryl (Frank) Curtis.
Raoul was predeceased by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and a stepdaughter.
He will be sadly missed by his long-time friend, Dottie Engberg; daughter, Della Cocquyt (Larry) of Melita, Man. and grandchildren, Jacquie Smith (Hailey and Tia) of Brandon, Man., Joey Pattle (Jeff) and Journio of Brandon, Man., Jami (Chad) and Joshua and Brendon of Deloraine, Man., and Jennifer Schoonbaert (Shawn) and Julia of Melita, Man.; and daughter, Julie Loney (Bill) of Emo, Ont. and grandchildren, Kathy Lassche (Theodore) and Kara and Megan of Duncan, B.C., Paul Loney of Emo, Ont., John Loney (Darlene) and Regan and Jack of Didsbury, Alta., and Michael Loney (Joann) and Emily and Benjamin of Emo, Ont.
He also is survived by his stepchildren, Cheryl Curtis (Frank) and grandchildren, Sherri Allan (Shaun) and Cole and Caleb and Cory Curtis (Andrea) and Chase, Caden, and Corson, all of Emo, Ont., and Terry Littlefield (Karen) of Kamloops, B.C. and grandchildren, Trevor and Grant (Trish) of Vancouver. B.C.
Also surviving are his sisters, Rose Menard, Alice, Anna Thorvaldson (Thor) of Winnipeg, Man., and Irene Fisk (Conrad) of Atikokan, Ont.; sister-in-law, Jeannie Morphet (Irwin); and brothers-in-law, Moe Tribe (Ev), Doug Tribe (Loraine), and Ed Tribe (Eleanore).
A celebration of life was held Thursday, Feb. 21m 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating accompanied by the Emo Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 99 Colour Party.
The pallbearers were Paul Loney, Michael Loney, Corey Curtis, Shaun Allan, Larry Beaucage, and Rick Beaucage.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Emo Cemetery.
