GERALD ALBERT SMITH

The family of Gerald Albert Smith is sad to announce his passing on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Gerald was born Aug. 23, 1938 in Naicatchewenin First Nation, Ont. to John and Margaret Smith.
He worked a variety of jobs, including logging, firefighter, and tree-planting for the MNR. He even spent summers working in the Northwest Territories as a guide.
Gerald enjoyed playing cards with his family, fishing, hunting, berry-picking, hanging out with his fellow elders, and music, especially George Jones, and always could be counted on for a big smile.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret; brothers, Eddie and Frank; in-laws, Alphonse and Mary Smith; son-in-law, Glen Medicine; as well as various aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He leaves behind his children, Marilyn, Roger, Donna (Dave), Stewart, Cindy, Shirley (Marvin), Kevin (Crystal), Jason (Katherine) and Gerald Jr., and their mother, Alice; siblings, Delia (Gilbert) Smith, Calvin Smith, and John “Fred” Smith; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the Naicatchewenin First Nation gymnasium.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Naicatchewenin First Nation gymnasium, with Pastor Peggy Mason officiating.
Interment will take place at the Naicatchewenin First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Darren Yerxa, Delano Black, Josh Smith, Leonard Smith, Wayne Smith, Sean Smith, Faron Caribou, and Travis Smith.
The honourary pallbearers will be Buddy Cyr, Tommy Smith, Gerald Carr, Ross Anderson, Calvin Smith, Fred Smith, Jerry Smith (Moots), Michael Smith, Lorne Smith, Ray Smith, and Marvin Fering.
