Kenneth Adams passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, Ont.
Kenneth was born May 4, 1950 in Naongashing, Lake of the Woods. He was delivered by his Gogo (grandmother Handorgan).
Kenneth is survived by his brother, Elvis (Kim), and sisters, Bridget and Susan (Fred); nephews, Joe, Tom, Chris (Jailynn), Paul, Wade, and Talon; nieces, Cindy (Jay), Shalon (Reno), Roxanne (Chris), Kerry, Alexis (Allen), and Larissa (Shawn); many grandchildren according to Ojibway customs; his aunts, Lila Andy and Ann Rodegard; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Marie Adams; both paternal and maternal grandparents; brother, Alex; sister, Lorna; and nephew, Christopher. They all will be happy to see him.
Kenneth was a gentle and quiet soul who liked to play chess and backgammon. He also liked to read. He could be found at the Winnipeg downtown library playing chess.
He taught his nephew, Wade, how to play chess, and Wade went on to play in chess tournaments when he was in elementary and high school.
He was a very private and independent person.
Ken worked at various jobs throughout his life. He started as a commercial fisherman at a young age with his brother, Alex. He had a work ethic and he always worked.
It was his work ethic that made his co-workers go to check up on him when he didn’t show up for work. We were told that it was not like him to miss work. He already was debilitated by his illness then.
His family is grateful that they were able to spend the last weeks of his life with him.
A wake will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 starting at 3 p.m. at the Big Grassy Community Hall.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Big Grassy Community Hall, with interment to follow.
The pallbearers will be Albert Handorgan, Dough Comegan, Wade Greene, Fred Greene, Roy Tom, and Robert Handorgan.
