ANTON ‘TONY’ JACYK

It is with great sadness that the family of Anton “Tony” Jacyk announces his passing on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Facility in Fort Frances, Ont.
Tony was born Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1911 in Welyka Hlush, Ukraine to the late Unofrie and Polania Jacyk. He immigrated to Canada in 1926 and settled in Rainy River District, where he had lived since.
He had worked for the Canadian National Railway, retiring in January, 1970 as a section foreman.
He was a member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Fort Frances.
Tony was predeceased by his wife, Anna Bashuk, in December, 2000; and his niece, Eugenia Bashuk Karadontis, in August, 2008.
He is survived by his family, Elise Oliveira (Victor) of Vancouver, B.C., Robert Karadontis (Shelly) of Duncan, B.C., and Edward Karadontis (Jane) of North Vancouver, B.C.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Visitation was held prior to the funeral service at Green Funeral Home.
Fr. Henry Lakusta officiated, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The pallbearers were Ron Patrick, Don Patrick, Robert Karadontis, and Ed Karadontis
