With his family at his side, Robert Earl (Bob) Hagen passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre in Dryden, Ont. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born July 18, 1945 to Earl and Martha Hagen of Black Hawk, Ont. He attended a one-room school there, followed by high school in Fort Frances.
Being raised “on the farm,” Bob learned to be a hard worker at a very young age. His chosen career was auto mechanics, working in Fort Frances until he relocated to Dryden in 1969, where he was employed by Dryden Paper Company, retiring from Weyerhaeuser in 2003.
Bob worked at trapping minnows while still on the farm. He carried this interest and began trapping in 1989 as a hobby for his retirement.
Working along with his wife, Jackie, this quickly evolved into a busy summer business.
Since retirement, many winters were spent at their home in Sun City, Ariz., where they enjoyed travelling, golfing, and socializing with many wonderful family and friends.
Fishing, camping, and hunting with family and friends were a big part of his life.
Bob was a very loving and involved father, and always was interested in what those close to him were doing. Many phone calls were made every Sunday catching up with all his loved ones.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie; son, Neil (Michelyn) of LaSalle Man.; daughter, Angela (Dan) Kirwan; grandchildren, Chantel, Chad, Kevin, Jaymi, Dalton, and Shae; and great-grandsons, Hunter, Myles, and Chase.
Also surviving are his siblings, Janice (Paul) DeGagne, Barbara Mallory, Larry (Sherin), and Mark (Karen); sister- and brother-in-law, Judy and Elmer Chop; as well many cousins, nieces, nephews, other family, and a host of good friends.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Martha; brothers, Everett and Allan; and sons, Paul and Brent.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dryden, with interment to follow immediately in the Dryden Cemetery.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to service.
