It is with sadness that the family of Marjorie Chepil, 73, of 199 Ontario St., Thunder Bay, Ont., announces her passing on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at her residence with her family by her side.
Marjorie was born Oct. 2, 1938 in McIrvine (Fort Frances), Ont. and was raised in a farm environment with her parents, Pearl and Jim Laughren.
Marge raised five children in the Fort Frances, Emo, and Thunder Bay areas.
She is survived by her husband, Stewart Mainville; daughter, Susan Chepil (grandchildren, Heather, Bill, Holly, and April, and great-grandchildren, Emily, Nakayla, and Dominic) of British Columbia; son, David (Linda) Chepil (Karly and Andy) of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, Sandy Chepil, Sheri (Alicia and Matthew) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; son, Glen Chepil of Fort Frances, Ont.; and daughter, Nancy Degagne (Denis) of Timmins, Ont.
Marge was predeceased by her mother, Pearl Barker of Emo, Ont. and her father, Jim Laughren of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as her beloved dog, Scotty.
In her earlier years as a young girl growing up, Marjorie loved horses and had a beautiful horse named “Friend.” I remember Mom telling me of delivering water to the neighbours in McIrvine on the buckboard sleigh.
Marge also enjoyed curling, mostly at the Emo curling rink.
She was trained and worked as a Registered Nurses Assistant, and also volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary in the Emo community many years ago.
She also enjoyed going to the cabin on Off Lake each summer when Grampa and Gramma were still alive. Those certainly were memorable times.
Marjorie was well-known for her kind and generous heart, and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Cremation has taken place in Thunder Bay.
A private burial service was held Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery on Oliver Road in Thunder Bay.
A celebration of Marjorie’s life was held immediately afterwards at the Victoria Inn (Selkirk Room).
