It is with sadness and sorrow that the family of Guy DeGagne announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle following a courageous battle with cancer at the Selkirk General Hospital on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the age of 76.
The eighth child of the late Alcide and Rose Anna (Chartier) DeGagne was born March 6, 1934.
He attended St. Mary’s School. At the age of 16, his first job was as bellhop at the Rainy Lake Hotel.
In 1952, he married the love of his life, Mae Bodnarchuk.
He worked at the Fort Frances Dairy until 1965. He then moved his family to Thompson, Man., where he was employed by Inco until his retirement in 1994.
His greatest passion was the making of excellent wood scroll crafts in his garage hobby shop. He also enjoyed may leisure hours fishing at Paint Lake.
Guy was an excellent wood-worker and craftsman. Many of his special projects can be found across the world, but most of all in the homes of all his family and friends.
In 2006, he and his wife, Mae, gave up their wonderful home at Paint Lake, Man. and moved to Selkirk, Man.
Guy was predeceased by two sons, Guy Stanley and Jody Gene; four brothers, Adelard, Tom, Charlie, and Ambroise; and three sisters, Florence, Evelyn, and Marie Louise.
He is survived by his wife, Mae; son, Dale (Tamara) of Labrador; granddaughters, Crystal (Brett), Amanda, Rhonda, Andrea, Charmaine, and Danette (Katherine); and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brother, Alcide (Angele) of Ottawa, Ont.; sisters, Jeanne Kaun (Ed) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Rosanna Tweedie (Earl) of Devlin, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place in Selkirk.
A funeral masss will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ont.
