TERRANCE (‘TERRY’) LLOYD STINSON

With his family by his side, Terrance (“Terry”) Lloyd Stinson passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
Terry was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on Jan. 14, 1948.
His kindness and love always will be remembered by his mother, Vergil (Riley) Stinson; brother, Leland Stinson; best friend and mother to his children, Marilyn Stinson; children, Victoria Stinson, Kathryn Stinson, and Kerrilyn Stinson; nephews, Christopher and Jonathan Stinson; and his loyal sidekick, Molly.
Terry was predeceased by his father, Lloyd “Bud” Stinson.
Terry had a wonderful childhood growing up in this small town during the 1950s. Although he spent time in Toronto and Vancouver, his heart was always on Rainy Lake, and brought him back home to raise his family.
No even spending a night lost in the bush, the subject of a search party, dampened his enthusiasm for the area.
He was known by all and treated well as only a small community can do.
Terry had a passion for all sports and a great athletic ability, which was only surpassed by his photographic memory for sport trivia which was called upon to settle many arguments even from a young age.
Among his many athletic accomplishments including running in the Toronto marathon, being scouted for a minor-league baseball team, and being a part of the inaugural Muskie hockey team.
He was a quiet, gentle man who was never seen without his baseball cap and a smile on his face.
He loved nothing more than spending time in the canoe or walking the dogs around the family cabin on beautiful Rainy Lake.
He received his college diploma and university degree at Confederation College and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
Terry was involved with the Big Brother Association, and his “little brothers” stayed in touch with him for many years.
Terry’s most fulfilling jobs included working with special needs children in Toronto and driving school bus in Rainy River District, both of which brought him such joy.
His greatest achievement, however, as anyone who knew him would quickly learn, were his three daughters, who always will remember him for his love, dedication, and most of all the unending patience he needed during the countless hours spent perfecting their baseball skills.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to Kidsport at the Northwestern Health Unit, 396 Scott St., Fort Frances (c/o Elaine Fischer) so that children of the district in financial need may participate and learn to love sports as Terry did.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Terry’s life on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. in McMillan Hall at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
