Unexpectedly, the family announces the sudden passing of Albert Carrier at his residence in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the age of 62.
He was diagnosed with PPH in 1990 and fought a valiant battle to the end.
Albert was born in the Red Cross Hospital in Emo, Ont. on April 20, 1947 to the late Albert and Thelma Carrier.
He was a dedicated Lions Club member for 32 years, receiving many prestigious awards, including the Melvin Jones Award and Lion of the Year Award. He served as president of the Fort Frances Lions Club for four terms, as well as many other positions, the latest one being chairman of the FF Lions TV Bingo.
He also was a valued member of the Granite Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
Albert worked for the Rainy River District School Board, a job which he thoroughly enjoyed. At the time of his retirement in 2000, he worked for the district schools as a computer technician.
He enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, and meeting his “buddies” daily at McDonald’s for coffee and volunteering in many local community projects.
Albert often could be seen down at Pithers’ Point Park with his dog, Elmo, and during the summer months polishing the chrome wheels of his pride and joy, his red Mustang convertible.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 39 years, Valarie; brothers; James (Dee), Gordon, Gerald (Christine), Lawrence, and Sheldon (Lyla); sister, Joan (Dale) Gibson; sister-in-law, Connie (Ben) Van Drunen; brother-in-law Mervin (Lynda) Ahrens; uncles, Ivan (Jean) Moulton and Wellington Moulton; aunt, Fronie Moulton; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Albert was predeceased by two infant children; his parents, Albert and Thelma Carrier; and parents-in-law, Otto and Mildred Ahrens.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
A luncheon at Northridge for family and friends will follow.
Interment will take place in the Barwick Cemetery in Barwick, Ont. at a later date.
