Signor Waldemar “Sig” Pearson, 80, of 517 Armit Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away with his family by his side on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances.
Sig was born June 7, 1929 in Fort Frances to Martha and Victor Pearson.
On Sept 8, 1950, he married the love of his life, Jean Matthews. They had four children, Debbie, Cathy, Patti, and Doug.
He started working at the local paper mill when he was 17 years old, and worked there until his retirement in 1988. He also was in partnership with his father and brothers in “Vic Person and Sons Logging” for many years.
Sig was a member of the Elks, the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29, and the Papermakers Union Local 306. Sig’s hobbies included woodworking and spending time at the cabin with his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his family and all who encountered his humour.
Sig is survived by his loving wife, Jean; daughters, Cathy (Gerry) Wilson and Patti Pearson; and son, Doug Pearson; his grandchildren, Kari-Lynn (Shane) Beckett, Shauna-Leigh Carlson (Armand Jourdain), Mandy (Greg) Hammer, Travis (Corrine) Carlson, Jaime Carlson (Dave), Jeremy Wilson, and Ashley Wilson (Austin); four great-grandsons, Ethan, Logan, Hayden, and Corbin; and two great granddaughters, Morgan and Peyton.
He also is survived by his son-in-law, Gerald Carlson; brother, Van Pearson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents, Martha and Victor Pearson; daughter, Debbie Carlson; sister, Mildred Kelly; brothers, William and Stanley Pearson; and brothers-in-law, Larry Matthews and Tom Kelly.
Cremation will take place at Rainy River Cremation Services in International Falls, Mn.
A memorial service to celebrate Sig’s life will be held Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances, with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
Inurnment will take place in Fort Frances at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, and special friends, Ray Coran, Jim Gustafson, Art Scheirer, Al Roulson, Bob Moffatt, Ed Sletmoen, and George Tremblay.
