The family of Ingrid Christiansen, 91, of Fort Frances, Ont., are sad to announce her passing on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Ingrid was born Jan. 31, 1918 in Morsil, Jamtland, Sweden to the late Karl and Marta Lindholm. She came to Canada at the age of 11, settling in Fort Frances with her family.
She was united in marriage to Henry Christiansen on Aug. 3, 1935. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Frances.
Ingrid was predeceased by her husband, Henry, on Sept. 4, 1986; parents, Karl and Marta; brother, Gustav Hansen; sister, Great Klein; niece, Inger Nilsson; brothers-in-law, George and Robert Christiansen; and sisters-in-law, Edith Berg, Donna Little, Inga Pearson, Alfreda Christiansen, Gurlie Christiansen, Irene Christiansen, and Florence Christiansen.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Shirley-Ann and husband, Don Crosby, of International Falls, Mn. and Gay-Lynn and husband, Paul Ryan, of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Shelley (Gary) Olson of Maple Grove, Mn., Larry (Beth) Crosby of Lakeville, Mn., Steven (Jessica) Crosby of International Falls, Mn., Lisa (Kevin) Blanchard of International Falls, Mn., and Karla (Karl) Bodnar of Fort McMurray, Alta.; and great-grandchildren, Blake Olson, Tyler and Chloe Crosby, Meggan and Brenna Crosby, Colten and Gage Blanchard, and Kai and Kiril Bodnar.
Also surviving are her brothers-in-law, Walter Christiansen, John Ernest Christiansen, and Harold Christiansen; and sister-in-law, Nancy Lavigne.
She also leaves behind a very long-time and dear friend, Annie Mathews.
Ingrid chose to live a traditional, simple life, full of love for her family and friends, who were always welcomed at her home and cabin at the lake.
Ingrid and Henry began building their first cabin in 1942. Many happy memories will be with her family and friends always.
Ingrid and Henry lived on Third Street East all of their married life until 1991, when she sold the family home and moved to Rose Manor.
Ingrid spent the last year-and-a-half of her life with her many friends at Rainycrest.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, ON.
A celebration of Ingrid’s life will be held Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Brian Keffer will officiate, with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
