GEORGE GORDON HYATT

George Hyatt, 76, of Burriss, Ont., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont. with his family by his side.
George was born April 30, 1933 on the family farm five miles south of Emo in Lash Township. He attended Grades 1-8 at Lash #10 School.
George started working at the age of 16 doing farm work. At the age of 18, he joined the army, Lord Strathcona Horse Armored Corps. He was sent overseas in April, 1953 to Korea and returned home in June, 1954.
He then joined the police force in Fort Frances for one year.
On Feb. 18, 1955, he married Beverly King, and together they purchased the family farm in 1958.
Along with farming, George did other odd jobs, such as driving truck in the summer and working in the bush in the winter. George started working for the CNR in 1966 until 1990.
He continued to farm, switching from a little bit of everything to beef farming, and continued to farm with his sons until his death.
George is survived by his eight children, Cheryl (Alvin) Armstrong, Gord (Pat), Charlene (Ron) Mc Tavish, Doug (Mary), Charlotte, Shawn (Tracy), Shelly (Kelvin) Caul, and Shirley (Bob) Bird; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his brothers, Angus (Fern) and Fred (Evelyn); his sisters, Shirley Mills, Vivian Cole, Sylvia Beadle, and Grace (Keith) Neilson; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly (2001); parents, Annie and Noble Hyatt; brothers, Jack, and Joe; sisters, Eunice Booth, Aileen Strachan, and Joyce Walton; and numerous in-laws.
Family and friends were received Monday, June 15, 2009 from 7-8 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment took place in Burriss Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Brad Armstrong, Graham McTavish, Jeremy Hyatt, Jason Caul, Jeff Hyatt, Howard Teeple, and Matthew Hyatt (unable to attend due to military obligations overseas).
The honourary pallbearers were Jackie McMurrich, Brenda Tesarski, Crystal Hyatt, Angela Gibson, Sarah Teeple, Tina Hyatt, Stephanie Hyatt, Kerry Hyatt, Jennifer Caul, Emily Bird, and Shannon Bird.
