LEON STANLEY PEZIOL

Leon Stanley Peziol, 90, of Rainycrest Long Term Care, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., and formerly of 319 Third St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed at his residence on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008.
He was born July 1, 1918 in Denmark to the late Stanley and Kaminska Peziol.
He leaves behind his sisters, Sofia Filipek, Janina Domagata, and Wadystawa Poziomek, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all in Poland.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jessie Peziol in 1990; and three brothers, Bolestawin, Stephan, and Oleksanter.
Leon served in the Polish Army for six years and also in the Russian Army. Following his discharge from the services, he moved to Canada in 1946 and settled in Medicine Hat, Alta. to work at a cattle ranch for two years. He then moved to Winnipeg, Man. for six months, until moving to Flanders, Ont. for eight years.
Leon later moved to Atikokan, Ont., where he worked for a number of years.
On Aug. 3, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Jessie Hollands. In 1965, they moved to Fort Frances, where Leon drove truck for Mando, O & M, and later Boise Cascade Pulp and Paper from 1954 until his retirement in 1982.
Leon was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
Over the years, he loved gardening and had a passion for animals, especially his two cats. Leon also enjoyed spending time with his friends and being a part of their family functions, especially Betty and Bill Penney and their family in Stratton, as well as Harvey and Micheliane Vien of Fort Frances.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Colour Party will provide a tribute at the funeral service.
Family and friends visited from 9 a.m. until service time at Green Funeral Home.
The pallbearers were William Penney, Leo Penney, Jim McInnis, Bogdan Fraczkiewicz, Harvey Vien, and Randy Krawchuk.
The honourary pallbearers will be Harvey and Micheliane Vien, Betty and Bill Penney, Jean Bolen, and other friends.
