DORIS HELEN MORPHET

Doris Helen Morphet, 83, of Emo, Ont., passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo.
Doris was born April 9, 1925 in Emo to the late Stephen and Ada (nee Plaskett) Hyatt. She attended Lash #10 school.
On Oct. 23, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Allan Richard Morphet, and they were together for 29 years until Allan’s death in 1974.
She continued farming, raising their entire herd of cattle until 1976. At that time, she reduced the number of livestock but kept the farm operational until she finally sold all her cattle in 1993.
Doris truly loved farming. She enjoyed the hard work of farming and the quietness of life in the country. She appreciated the help of her neighbours, which contributed to allowing her to continue farming for so long. She also enjoyed the wildlife in her yard, always keeping eye on her humming birds.
Doris was an excellent seamstress. She also was active in the community as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Lash Women’s Institute for many years. On many Saturday evenings, Doris could be found at the old-time dances at the Emo Legion.
Doris was employed at the Emo Hotel from 1960-80. She also worked at the Emo Red Cross Hospital from 1974 until 1980. From 1983-86, she enjoyed working at Ross’s Camp.
Doris is lovingly remembered by her children, Darlene (Cecil) Fletcher of Emo, Ont., Aldon Morphet of Fort Frances, Ont., and Mary Jane (Stanley) Kruger of Dryden, Ont.; five grandchildren, Brian (Sandy) Gamie, Alex (Dorothy) Gamie, Kevin (Aaron) Kruger, Michael (Deanna) Kruger, and Kerri-Ann (Pasi) Pinta; and 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Masion, Colton, and Abby Gamie, Caymen, Kyla, Alexis, Cameron, Morgan, and Kara Kruger, and Kasey and Brooke Pinta.
Doris also is survived by her brother, Morley (Marg) Hyatt; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Hyatt, Melva (Mylo) Pageot, Harriett Morphet, and Betty Morphet; brothers-in-law, Irwin (Jeannie) Morphet and Edwin (Shirley) Morphet; and several nieces and nephews.
