RUTH JEWETT

The family of Mrs. Ruth Jewett announces with great sorrow her unexpected passing on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008.
Born May 17, 1926 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Harvey and Dagney Zimmerman, Ruth was the youngest of four children. On April 21, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ivan Jewett and was a devoted wife for 63 years.
Ruth started her career at the Fort Frances Times. Then in 1961, she was successful in obtaining a position with the Unemployment Insurance Commission—quite an accomplishment in those days.
In 1966, she transferred with the federal government and the family moved to Thunder Bay, Ont. While raising her family, she diligently studied and was successful in job competitions, attaining the level of Insurance Adjudicator, from which she proudly retired in 1986.
Caring for her family, flower gardening, and curling were Ruth’s passions. In her post-retirement years, she also enjoyed camping and travelling with her husband and spending quality time with her family.
Ruth was a vibrant and personable lady, a wonderful mother to four children, and a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Margaret (Bill) Roeder of International Falls, Mn., and Marilyn (Mark) Smith, Dean, and Donna (Dennis) Harman; grandchildren, Barb (Rod) Shaw, Robbie (Becky) Roeder, Teresa (Dan) Wimmer, Joslyn (Geoff) MacGillivray, Tyler Smith, Emily Yantz, and Erin, Christina, Danielle, and Renee Graves; and her great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is her sister, Mary Rosen of Richmond, B.C.; brother, Robert Zimmerman of Denver, Colo.; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Gray of Humboldt, Sask.
Numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ivan; her parents; brother, George Zimmerman; nephew, Arthur Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Char Zimmerman; brother-in-law, News Rosen; and spousal in-laws.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Westfort Chapel in Thunder Bay, with Rev. Jeanne Bryan officiating.
Private family interment will take place in Stanley Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Should friends so desire, in memoriam donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Northwestern Chapter), and/or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
