JAMES HORATIO HOLMES
James Holmes, born Sept. 7, 1920 in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on May 23, 2008 at Burnaby General Hospital.
After being raised in Fort Frances and Rainy Lake area, he worked with his father, Perley Holmes, in his logging business. He also attended St. John’s University in Minnesota.
James then joined the Canadian military and served overseas during World War II.
After receiving his discharge in 1946, he travelled to British Columbia, where he met his wife, Angelina. They were married in 1954, settling in the Fraser Valley.
He joined the Ironworkers Union local #97. Three generations of Holmes have now followed him into iron-working and structural steel.
James is survived by his five children, Wendy, Perley, Debra, Sterling, and Kelly; his former wife, Angie; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and loving sisters, Gladis and Helen, and brother, Ray, and their families.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ina; and his loving parents, Perley and Florence Holmes.
A celebration of James’ life will be held at the family farm on Sept. 7, 2008.
