Monty Spoon, 73, of Seine River First Nation, Ont., passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Monty was born Aug. 12, 1934 in the Atikokan, Ont. area. He lived in Seine River most of his life.
Having been born in the bush, he loved to be outdoors. As a young man, he worked as a logger and then moved on to hunting, fishing, and trapping, and was well-known for his long walks.
He also enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, family, and many friends.
He leaves behind his children, Fred, Marcel, Janet B., Monty Jr., Greg, Darren, Janet C., Marcella, Tina, and Nathan; brother, John Spoon; stepdaughters, Laverne and Valerie; as well as numerous grandchildren and extended family.
Monty was predeceased by his parents, Pete and Shaydong Spoon; daughter, Cynthia Spoon; granddaughter, Danielle; grandson, Baby Boy Menson; brothers, Bill, Archie, and Bob; as well as sisters, Jean and Lillian.
A wake was held Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 3 p.m. at the Seine River First Nation gymnasium. A traditional service was held in the morning of Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the Seine River Nation gymnasium.
The pallbearers were Monty’s family and friends.
