HENRY STUTVOET

Peacefully, on May 5, 2008, Henry Stutvoet, formerly of Stratton, Ont., passed away at the Emo Health Center in Emo, Ont. at the age of 88.
He was born Jan. 24, 1920 in Gromingen, Holland to the late Hendrik Stutvoet and Trientje nee Van Hoorn.
Henry came to Canada with his family in 1927, settling in Bergland, Ont. He was united in marriage on July 10, 1957 to Ellen Code, who predeceased him on May 11, 2006.
In his younger years, Henry served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator, and in the logging and farming industry.
After selling their home on the river in Stratton, Henry and Ellen moved to the Morley Manor, where he resided until July, 2007. Alone and with failing health and cognition, Henry moved to the Emo Long-Term Care Facility, where he resided until his passing.
Henry was a quiet man of few words. He felt the key to staying young was through physical activity. He often would be seen out walking day and night, summer and winter.
When Henry fell and fractured his hip, and was no longer able to go for walks and be independent, he felt his life was over. He was ready to go when his time came.
Henry loved children and would do anything for them. He even shared his candy stash with them. Henry was a generous man who gave to needy families throughout the district.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Ellen; infant daughter; parents, Henry and Trientje Stutvoet; sister and brother-in-law Anne and Ralph Wardman; and brothers, Harm and John Sutvoet.
He is survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jack and Georgina Whitlaw of Winnipeg, Man.; brother-in-law, Lynn Allen of Atikokan, Ont.; and close friends, Tom and Kristal Vandenbrand and family of Stratton, Ont.
Henry will be missed by all his friends.
As per Henry’s request, cremation has taken place and a private interment took place on Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Stratton Cemetery, with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.
