With our deepest love and saddened hearts, the family of Lyn Marschalk announces his passing on the evening of Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the age of 67.
Lyn passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lyn was born July 18, 1940 in Warroad, Mn. but he moved with his family to International Falls, Mn. in 1950. He graduated from Falls High School (Class of 1958) and a short time later served in the U.S. Army.
Lyn worked for Wagner Construction Company in International Falls, and for his friend, Ken Tainter, in the television and cable business. He also bartended at the Border Bar and the Outpost Saloon in International Falls.
In recent years, Lyn was self-employed as a landscaper, providing lawn and garden care for a number of homes around town.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, watching and befriending wildlife, and creating a variety of home-made “contraptions” out in his garage. Lyn’s favourite outdoor recreation was fishing. He lived for his fishing “excursions” with his best friend, Ken, and crew.
Lyn was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Alyce Norwig; sister, Beverly Marschalk; brothers, Les Marschalk and Tom Marschalk; and half-brother, Ronnie Norwig.
He is survived by his son, Troy (Carla) Marschalk and grandson, Jesse Marschalk, and loving and adoring partner, Maki Mainville, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, Dick (Joy) Marschalk of New Brighton, Mn.; sister, Marcie Sipi of Bloomington, Mn.; half-sister, Susan Marschalk of the Twin Cites; lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Ken Tainter of Ontario, Wis.; and special family friend, Jan Smith of Lewiston, Idaho.
Lyn’s greatest pride and joy was the birth of his grandson, Jesse. He mentioned to many when he found out he had cancer that he needed to fight it for Jesse. That was his motivation and reason for getting a few more years
in.
Jesse will always carry special memories of Papa Lyn—from all of the pictures taken together to rides on the riding lawn mower to the park across
the street. The quirky nicknames he was christened, and the homemade wooden trains, trucks, logs, and trailers.
Most of all, the complete love and adoration Papa Lyn showed Jesse each and every precious minute spent together.
A celebration of life service was conducted Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Green-Larsen Mortuary in International Falls.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in International Falls.
