We regret to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Terrance David (“Terry”) Smith, 60, on March 24, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Terry was born in Fort Frances, Ont., on Aug. 31, 1947 to Richard (“Dick”) and Thelma Smith. He grew up in Fort Frances, where he attended local schools before moving to Thunder Bay as an adult.
Terry drove taxi for many years, starting with Lacey’s, then the last 15 years with Roach’s Taxi.
His chosen vocation put him in touch with people of all walks of life. He enjoyed his work immensely and took great pride in serving the public.
Terry was a very social guy who gathered on a regular basis for coffee with “the group.” He was an avid member of the Selectamatic Pool League (friends who shared these times with Terry will miss him) and also was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He always had a smile for everyone, and was a fan of car racing and enjoyed his car and motorcycles.
Terry is survived by his son, Terrance Richard (“Rick”); and granddaughters, Caley, Alysha, Tamaysha, and Sharaya, all of Thunder Bay, Ont., who will dearly miss their “Gramps.”
He also is survived by his stepdaughter, Catharine; brother, Gordon (Norma) Smith of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sister, Evelyn (Bill) Shine of Fort Frances, Ont.; aunts, Gweneth Richardson and Violet Friesen; uncle, Clifford Richardson; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Thelma Smith; sister, Marilyne Smith; and stepson, Joseph.
Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
An informal gathering for “coffee” and remembrance in honour of Terry will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. at the Moose Hall in Thunder Bay (434 Fort William Rd.)
Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
