JOHN EVANS
John Evans, a resident of Rainycrest in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 18, 1923 in Charlton, Wantage, Berks in England, and came to Canada in June of 1924 to Fort Frances.
John completed Grade 9 and 10 of the General Shop Course in June, 1941 at Fort Frances High School. He then completed a five-year apprenticeship at the trade of Motor Vehicle Repairing Specialized on Jan. 15, 1948.
John also completed a course of Heavy Duty Diesel Construction Equipment on June 11, 1965.
Since John was single, he was able to move easily and worked all over Canada at various jobs. He worked in Alberta on the Canada Pipeline with Leduc Oil. He also worked in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Fort Frances, Hamilton, and Toronto.
He liked to ride his motorcycle throughout southwestern Ontario on his days off of work. John also loved music and enjoyed playing his accordion.
We all enjoyed his wonderful sense of humour and plentiful jokes. He had a way with children, and his nephews and nieces are left with fond memories of him.
He retired in 1988 and shortly thereafter returned to Fort Francs to live.
In the last 10 years, John suffered from blindness and Parkinson disease, which rendered him immobile and with impaired speech.
He was predeceased by his parents, Florence Winifred and John Percy Evans; sisters, Connie Pierce and Renee Gartshore; and brothers-in-law, Michael Pierce, Jim Gartshore, Bruce Biddeson, and Earl Fawcett.
John is survived by his sisters, Mary Biddeson of Fort Frances, Ont., Violet Fawcett of Calgary, Alta., and Joan (Richard) McCutchon of Hanover, Ont.; brother, Ted (Doreen) Evans of London, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Pastor David Groff of the Bethel Baptist Church will officiate.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
