LENA DUCHNICKI

It is with great sadness of heart that the family announces the passing of Lena Duchnicki, 90, who passed away peacefully at Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances, Ont. on Thursday, April 10, 2008 with her family at her side.

She was born March 9,1918 in Buchanan, Sask. to the late William and Mary Ossachuk. On Aug. 1, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Duchnicki.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League. Family, home, and gardening were her devotions. She was a great lover of nature, with spring being her favourite season.

Lena also was an excellent home-maker, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and John celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August of last year.

She was predeceased by her brother, John, during World War II.

Lena will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her husband, John Duchnicki; daughter, Josie (Luke) Schill; son, Tom (Rochelle) Duchnicki; sisters, Edith Dolyny and Sadie Kowalchuk; brother, Joe (Bertha) Ossachuk; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter and Kay Duchnicki, and Nick and Emelia Mutz.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Monica (John) Sus, Bridget (Bob) Dobransky, Chris Duchnicki, and Allyson (Greg) Kyle; great-grandchildren, Erica, Adam, and Steven Sus, Heather and Paul Dobransky, Jessica Duchnicki, and Grace and Charlie Kyle; a very special cousin, Bill Downey and wife, Sylvia; numerous nieces and nephews; and her “best friend,” Tipsy her cat.

Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating.

Cremation has taken place in International Falls, Mn. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.

The honourary pallbearers will be Chris Duchnicki, Adam and Steven Sus, Paul Dobransky, Jorma Johnson, Andrew Morrish, and Braedon Keast.

Floral tributes are gratefully declined.
