AILI HUITIKKA
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Aili Huitikka (nee Sarlund), on Monday, March 10, 2008.
Mom was born in Ladysmith, B.C. on July 9, 1914 and came to Rainy River District in the early 1930s.
She started her married life to Onni Huitikka in May of 1935, and together they raised seven children.
Mom led a very quiet life and was able to live in her own apartment until just recently, when health issues made it necessary for her to be admitted to the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.
She was a very private person. She enjoyed her visits from her family, and loved to hear all the stories about the “little ones.”
In her earlier years, she enjoyed doing ceramics, knitting, and had a very green thumb when it came to tending her houseplants.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Reino (Agnes), Olavi (Marlyce), Bob (Cathy), Don (Dorothy), and Ricky (Karen), her daughter, Helen, and daughter-in-law, Helen; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers; Ben, Leo, and Brandon; husband, Onni; son, Albert; and son-in-law, Vic.
As per Aili’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A time of fellowship will be held Friday March 14, 2008 from 1-3 p.m. at the Off Lake Covenant Church.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Emo Health Centre, P.0. Box 390, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
