Peacefully, on Feb. 25, 2008, Eva M. Lowes of Rainy River, Ont. passed away at the age of 90.
Eva was born April 29, 1917 in Baudette, Mn., the daughter of Edward and Florence Kearney.
Eva was united in marriage to Albert (Ab) Lowes in 1935 in International Falls, Mn. Eva and Ab opened a grocery and general store in Sleeman, Ont. in 1937 and also sold Rawleigh products in the Rainy River District. They also operated the very first mail route to Bergland, Ont.
Their business later expanded to include lumber, hardware, furniture, and appliances. In 1973, Eva and Ab retired and spent their winters in McAllen, Tex.
Eva is survived by daughter, Dixie (Harvey) Vellieux of Edmonton, Alta.; sons, Ray (Marion) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Dale (June) of Rainy River, Ont.; brother, Lorne (Hazel) Kearney of Winnipeg, Man.; as well as 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Eva was predeceased by her husband, Ab, on Feb. 17, 1983; parents, Edward and Florence Kearney; brother, Norman; and sister, Ella Prystayko.
During her lifetime, Eva was a valued member of St. James Anglican Church, The Order of the Eastern Star, and Kinnettes.
A celebration of Eva’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the St. James Anglican Church in Rainy River, Ont., with Pastor Glen Armstrong officiating.
Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Brent Lowes, Darren Lowes, Chris Lowes, Mike Lowes, Doug Vellieux, and Aaron Lowes.
