JOSEPHINE (JOEY) HARCUS

Josephine Harcus, 86, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
Josephine was born Sept. 12, 1921 in Rocanville, Sask. to Walter and Irene Goodman. She was the last of eight brothers and sisters.
She was raised in Saskatchewan and then went to Winnipeg, Man. to train as a nurse. She graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1944 and worked at the Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital.
She was united in marriage to Samuel Harcus on Nov. 16, 1946. They lived in Regina and Winnipeg before moving to Fort Frances in 1970.
Joey was an avid golfer, curler, and member of the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary as well as a member of the Knox United Church. She also enjoyed spending time at the lake.
She leaves behind her husband, Samuel; children, Penny and husband, Peter Thackeray, of Thompson, Man., Donald and wife, Barbara, of Toledo, Ohio, and Bruce of Winnipeg, Man.; grandchildren, Jennifer Cameron, Jerine Thackeray, Scott and Lindsey Harcus, and Sam and Madison Harcus and their mother, Sharon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in April, 2008 at Knox United Church in Fort Frances.
Cremation has taken place, and interment will take place at the Lady Frances Columbarium at the Fort Frances Cemetery following the service.
