Edna Willimine Pattison, born Sept. 17, 1916, slipped away from earthly pain and discomforts around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont. at the age of 91.
She was born in Thunder Bay, where her mother, Ella Edna (Severson) Pattison, lived while her father served overseas in the army. After Edna’s father returned from overseas, he moved his family onto a farm in Kingsford Township, where the family grew to six children—three girls and three boys.
Edna, the oldest child, is survived by the youngest brother, Cecil John Pattison, and his wife, Beulah, of Valley View, Alta.
Edna was predeceased by her father, Bill, on Oct. 19, 1957 and mother, Ella, on July 26, 1962 of Emo, Ont.; her brothers, Mac, of Valley View and Morris, also of Alberta; and sisters, Helen Showalter and husband, Clarence (deceased), lived in Kenora, Ont., and Arlene Pallister of Portage La Prairie, Man.
Edna is survived by at least one of Helen’s daughters, Carole Wetendorf of Kenora, Ont., and Debbie Pallister, one of Arlene’s family, who lives in New Zealand.
Arlene’s family also includes Dennis, Patsy, Janice, and Johnny, who reside in Alberta and Manitoba.
Later, the family moved to the cement block house located on the highway in Emo. Then Edna and her parents lived in the big Thompson house on Front Street and Edna walked to work in the kitchen at Emo hospital.
Edna liked children and became a community babysitter. In Devlin, she worked for Mrs. Greensides taking care of Ethel (Bujold) and Freeda (Carmody). She remained a great buddy for the girls.
Edna lived in Queen Street senior apartments for years and then moved to long-term care in the Emo Health Centre in September, 2004.
Edna went to the cafeteria to celebrate her 90th birthday; she realized she was very close to the spot where her house was before the addition was added to the hospital building.
Edna had a great love of music and remembered how the family played in dance bands. Her mother played the guitar, her father a violin, and she loved to sing.
Her most recent delight was the Emo Health Centre’s Christmas party, the music and songs, the new Christmas baby, Santa, and her friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo, with United Church minister Peggy Mason officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in the Emo Cemetery at a later date.
