Terry Edgar Russell Godin, 71, of Manitou Rapids First Nations, Ont., passed away at his residence on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007.
Terry was born July 4, 1936 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late George and Helen Godin. He had worked as a guide at various tourist camps in the district, and also had guided in the North West Territories for a time.
He later became a roofer and carpenter, and then started his own contracting business.
He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of animals. He also enjoyed planting and watering his garden and landscaping. He also was a very good cook and was known as the “Chef.”
He was a very sociable, interesting, and hard-working man who did everything to the best of his ability.
Left to cherish his memory are his common-law wife, Annabelle Hawk; and his children, Pam Godin of Edmonton, Alta., Lisa (Rick) Vossler of Brooks, Alta., Terry Nietz of Medicine Hat, Alta., and Kevin Godin and common-law wife, Stephanie Markewich, of Manitou Rapids First Nations, Ont.
Also surviving are two granddaughters; his siblings, Shirley (Richard) McEvoy, Gary (Sherry) Godin, Randy (Betty) Godin, Kenny (Sophia) Godin, and Allan (Elaine) Godin; uncle, Almer (Evelyn) Godin; aunts, Irene, Merle, Matilda, and Eleanor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen Godin; aunts, Pearl Connon and Yvonne Almers; uncles, Emil, Louis, and Wilford; and sister, Carol Beck.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids First Nations gymnasium, with Pastor Mervin Brubacher officiating.
Interment took place in the Manitou Rapids First Nations cemetery.
A wake was held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 from 4 p.m. at the Manitou Rapids First Nations gymnasium.
The pallbearers were Nelson Hawk, Randy Godin, Dan Galloway, Brian Godin, Larry Godin, and Glen Medicine.
