Emma McLean, 66, of Devlin, Ont., passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007 in her home with family at her side.
Emma was born in Birchwood, Wis., the daughter of Hubert John and Theta (Carter) Galvin. She later moved to Terrace Bay, Ont., where Emma graduated from Terrace Bay High School and continued her education at Kings Business College in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Emma was united in marriage to Robert Dean McLean on Dec. 24, 1958. They started their family in Terrace Bay and later moved to Devlin to raise their family of three.
Emma returned to work in 1971 at Tichborne’s Insurance and continued her career at the Ford dealership in Fort Frances, Ont. She later retired from the Wolder McLennan law office.
Her greatest pleasure in the winter months was swimming and playing Bingo with her close and dearest friends. She and Bob enjoyed also bowling and card parties with friends and neighbours, and their winter vacations.
Emma enjoyed spending the summer at the trailer on Birch Point, socializing with the camp neighbours and friends. Emma’s home was always a gathering place for friends and families, where she enjoyed cooking and entertaining them.
Emma is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Dean (Maureen) and Kevin (Kari); and daughter, Wendy (Leo). Emma adored her grandchildren, Katie, Derek, Peter, Jeanna, Mathew, Heather, Kari, Rebecca, D.J., Shannon, and Kim.
She also is survived by her brother, Gary (Marie “Bunny”) Galvin, and sister-in-law, Charlotte Haney.
Emma was predeceased by her parents, Hubert and Theta; brother, John Galvin; and son-in-law, Doug Wilson.
Family and friends will be received Monday, July 23, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment in Devlin Cemetery in Devlin.
The pallbearers will be Murnie Allen, Martin Kellar, Todd McLean, Murray Witherspoon, Lorne Caul, and Mark Allen.
