On Tuesday, March 7, 2000, Gordon Galbraith, of R.R.#2, Emo, Ont., passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Emo Hospital.
Gordon was born to Richard and Jeanette Galbraith on June 28, 1929 in Fort Frances, Ont. He attended school in LaVallee, Ont., and spent all his life in Rainy River District. He had worked for the C.N.R. as a section man until his retirement in 1990 with more than 35 years of service.
On May 12, 1978, he married Ingrid Ellmen and they made their home near Finland, Ont., on Highway 71.
Gordon enjoyed his gardening and flowers, and was an avid bird watcher.
He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Jeanette.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Ingrid; and two step-daughters, Viola (Ken) Pederson of Elliot Lake, Ont., and Verna (Tom) Pocock of Fort Frances, Ont.
Also surviving are five step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond of Dawson Creek, Alta., Fred (Meryle) of Kenora, Ont., Allan (Rosella) of LaVallee, Ont., and Melvin of Emo, Ont.; two sisters, Margaret (Eric) Roberts of Calgary, Alta., and Betty (Art) Ellman, also of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 10, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church in Emo, with Miriam Bowlby officiating.
Interment will take place in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont. at a later date.
Pallbearers were Tony Bliss, Bill Watts, David Bragg, Oscar Burnell, Ken McDonald, and Alex Gawryluk.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to Knox United Church Memorial Fund or the Emo Hospital Memorial Fund.
