Frank “Ike” Eisenzoph, 73, of Rocky Inlet Rd., R.R.#2, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly in Winnipeg, Man. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000.
He was born Jan. 28, 1927 in Onek, Yugoslavia to the late John and Agnes Eisenzoph. He came to Canada with his parents at the age of three months and settled in Fort Frances.
In 1951, he moved to International Falls, Mn., where he lived until moving to Rocky Inlet Road in 1972.
He had worked as a millwright for Boise Cascade in International Falls and also as a guide for several resorts in International Falls. He enjoyed golfing and curling, and was a member of the Kitchen Creek Golf Club and the Fort Frances Curling Club.
He also was a member of the Elks Club in International Falls and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Canada.
He had played for the Fort Frances Canadians hockey team that won the Allan Cup in 1952. He also played for the U.S. National Hockey Team, the Warroad Lakers, who, in 1958, were the first American team to visit and play hockey in Russia during their European tour.
He also enjoyed fishing and guiding.
“Ike” was united in marriage May 18, 1949 to the former Jean Langtry, who survives along with their son, Lee, of Thunder Bay, Ont.
Also surviving is one brother, Joe Eisenzoph and wife, Christine, of Fort Frances; nieces, Sandie and husband, Bill Whalen, of Fort Frances, and Sherri Eisenzoph and fiancé, Mike Deschamps, of Fort Frances; mother-in-law, Louise Langtry of Fort Frances; brother-in-law, Jack Langtry and wife, Florence, of Fort Frances and their son, Derek Langtry, of London, Ont.; and cousins, Ernie and Ida Kotnik of Northwood, Ohio and John and Bev Kotnik of Fort Frances.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes Eisenzoph; brother, John Eisenzoph; sister, Rose Eisenzoph; father-in-law, Jack Langtry; and sister-in-law, Thelma Knotts.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiating.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 “Colour Party” will perform their Legion Tribute following the memorial service.
Cremation has taken place in Winnipeg, with interment in Fort Frances to follow at a later date.
Honourary pallbearers will be Joe Hodge, Ken McKinnon, Ken Fisher, Joe Ossachuk, Malcolm Douglas, Leroy Tveit, Gene O’Brien, Sam Harkus, Doc Johnson, Pete Makarchuk, Sambo Fedoruk, Walter Christiansen, Dale Lind, and Gordie Calder.
