Mr. Nickolia Michael (Nick) Plichta, 61, a resident of 123 Black Bay Crescent, Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 8, 2001 at the family cottage on One Island Lake.
Born in Sundown, Man., Nick spent his first 20 years in Fort Frances, Ont. but has resided in Thunder Bay for the past 40 years.
A member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, Nick was employed for the past 18 years with the Ontario New Home Warranty Program, where he met and made many friends.
Nick loved his family, camp, golfing, playing cribbage with almost anyone, his pool league pals, cruising on his pontoon boat, and especially his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alex, Landon, and Willem.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna; sons, Mark (Nadene) and grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alexander, and Landon; Murray (Heather) and grandson, Willem; and Paul (Kelli Savas).
Also surviving are brother, John (Georgina) Plichta; sisters, Elma (Stan) Wepruk, Jean (Joe) Olynyk, Dorothy (Bill) Wepruk, and Anne (Larry) Wood; brothers-in-law, Morris Tkachyk and Norman Larson; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Axana, and father, Joseph; and by sisters, Helen, Mary, and infant Kay.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2001 when family and friends will gather in St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church (Clayte Street) for Requiem Mass beginning at 11 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Ciaran Donnelly.
Interment to follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
Visitation for friends will be held in St. Margaret’s Church on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 from 6 until 8 p.m., with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m.

Removal to the church was made from the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court St., Thunder Bay, Ont., on Wednesday afternoon.
