It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, Sydney Jay Schram, on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
Syd was a life-long resident of Pattullo Township, north of Stratton, Ont. He was born Nov. 14, 1918 in Blenheim, Ont. but grew up on the family farm in Pattullo. Syd attended Pattullo #8 School to Grade 8.
As a young man, Syd worked for Ruban Bang in North Branch, helped build Steele’s Store in Blackhawk, worked on farms during harvesting out west, and worked in Atikokan in the early stages of the iron mine.

Syd farmed. Neighbouring farmers would call on him for help with various “veterinarian jobs.” Syd also logged, drove the municipal grader, taught the hunter’s safety course, and worked away from home on construction for George Armstrong as a driller and a powder man.
He was a 4-H leader, a beekeeper, a school board trustee, and a municipal councillor. He was an avid hunter and an excellent marksman. He also was a trapper.
In Syd’s later years, he raised beef cattle. His horses were his pride and joy.
