Thomas James Kelly

Thomas James Kelly, 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001 at the Harmony Manor Nursing Home in Winnemucca, Nev.
Tom was born March 17, 1905 in Seine River, Ont. As a young man, he guided hunting and fishing parties. Tom also worked in the timber industry and was a blacksmith.
He enlisted in the Royal Cana-dian Army, Canadian Forestry Corps, No. 17 Company, during WWII and served in Scotland for five years.
Tom came to the United States in 1950. He worked as a millwright and was a 50-year member of the Carpenters Union #87. He also enjoyed mining, fishing, polishing rocks, jewellery-making, and tinkering with several inventions in his lifetime.
Above all was his love of music.
He also travelled extensively in the West, as well as returning to Scotland twice to visit friends he had met when he was in the army.
He retired in 1970 and moved to Red Gut Bay, Ont. and enjoyed being back in his home territory until the death of Mrs. Mildred Kelly in 1977. He then moved to Winnemucca to be with his family.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union #87, Royal Canadian Legion, AAD Temple (Duluth, Mn.), life member of the Border Shrine Club (International Falls, Mn. and Fort Frances, Ont.), and Order of the Eastern Star-Chapter #6 (Winnemucca, Nev.)
He is survived by wife, Audrey; daughters, Donna Kelly and son-in-law, Keith Voges, of Winne-mucca, Nev., and Julieann Kelly of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Thomas J. Voges of Winnemucca, Nev., Tracy Ann Voges of Elko, Nev., and Patrick Kelly Hannu of Duluth, Mn.; and great-grandchildren, Skyler Johnson and Emma Hannu of Duluth, Mn.
Sister, Jessie Friday, and brother-in-law, Bud Friday, of Seine River, Ont., also survive; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, Thomas A. Kelly, and mother, Mashakiigwaneashiik, May Kelly and infant son, Mildred Pearson Kelly, and Margaret Johnson Kelly; son, David Hughes; sister, Evelina Johnson, and brother, Thomas B. Kelly.
A celebration of life will be conducted at Seine River First Nation in a traditional native ceremony at a later date.
