JAMES ‘JIM’ KHOBER

James “Jim” Khober, 76, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont., formerly of Queen Street Manor in Emo, Ont., passed away at his residence Monday, Dec. 31, 2001.
He was born May 24, 1925 in Anarcoke, Sask. to the late Alexander and Lydia Khober. During WWII, Jim served overseas with the Princess Patricia Infantry. Upon his discharge, he returned to Blackhawk, Ont.
On Sept. 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Ethel Barras. Following their marriage, they moved to Toronto, Ont., where Jim worked in the plumbing and heating industry for four years.
They then moved to Fort Frances, and later to British Columbia, where he resumed his career until his retirement in the 1970s.
Jim’s longtime service with St. John’s Ambulance, both in Fort Frances and British Columbia, was recognized by a special service award provided to him in Ottawa for his outstanding service.
On April 1, 1978, his wife, Ethel, passed away.
In the 1980s, Jim moved back to Fort Frances, until moving to Emo in the early 1990s. On June 22, 1996, he was united in marriage to Ethel Booth.
Jim was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 in Emo. For enjoyment, he loved working with wood and hooking rugs.
Jim was a very sociable person, and will be missed dearly by family and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, James Khober in 1990; daughter, Donna Khober in 2000; and sister, Eunice Tottenham in 1990.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ethel Khober of Emo, Ont.; two children, David Khober and wife, Lianna, of Prince George, B.C., and Fredna Khober of Edmonton, Alta.; five grandchildren, Bonnie and husband, Richard Gordon, of Prince George, B.C., Jason and Tim Bing, both of Edmonton, Alta., David Khober Jr. of Prince George, B.C., and Charity McMillan of Coombs, B.C.; and six great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by two brothers, Don Khober and wife, Addie, of South River, Ont., and Alex Khober of Atikokan, Ont.; six sisters, Mary Unwin of Victoria, B.C., Shirley and husband, Bob Cropper, of Sudbury, Ont., Alice and husband, Richard Cropper, of South River, Ont., Christina and husband, Eino Taulu, of Vancouver, B.C., Lydia Barras of Emo, Ont., and Jean Risto of Napanee, Ont.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, with Pastor Andrew Hall officiating.
Interment will take place in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont. at a later date.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 99 Colour Party will provide a military tribute during the service.
Honourary pallbearers will be Wellington Moulton, Bill McCready, Martin Pietila, Martin Booth, Wallace Hughes, and David Barras.
