ELSIE LOREEN MATEVIA

ELSIE LOREEN MATEVIA
Born in Emo, Ont. on Jan. 24, 1943, Elsie Loreen Matevia (nee Erwin) passed away to a better place after a long and brave battle with cancer at Victoria Hospice in Victoria, B.C. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007.
Elsie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Matevia; children, Robert and Richard; and grandchildren, Eric and Stephanie.
Also surviving are her brothers, Walter (David) and wife, Marilynn, and Stephen and wife, Karen; sister, Cindy and husband, Jim Larson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elsie was raised in Fort Frances, Ont. and, once older, joined the Royal Canadian Navy. She spent three years in the navy as an administration writer, where her talents shined as a very conscientious and meticulous document writer.
She married Bob and left the military life to become a wonderful wife and influential mother for her children.
Once Bob retired from the military, the family picked up stakes and moved back to her home town of Fort Frances. She spent the next 34 years raising her family and working in her chosen field as an accountant.
Elsie was exceedingly active with her church and contributed her accounting talents to the church, as well, before retiring to Victoria with Bob to be with her son and grandchildren.
She continued her long and valiant fight against cancer for the next five years, when her Heavenly Father decided it was time for her to come home to a well-deserved rest.
Elsie will be especially missed by those who have had a greater part of a lifetime to watch her abilities and character grow making her into the woman, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend we all love.
Those who have known her for a shorter time and have enjoyed the bountiful harvest of her skills and wisdom, and unfailing courage and faith, will miss her no less.
In memoriam donations may be made to the Life of Victory Family Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 40, Victoria, B.C., V8W 2M1.
