ANNE MARRS
Anne Marrs passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont.
Anne was born June 20, 1921 in Willowbrook, Sask. to Onufri and Mary Chowhan, and moved as a child to Fort Frances. On April 8, 1939, she married Jack Marrs, who predeceased her on April 1, 1969.
She is survived by three daughters, Sonia (Sonny) and son-in-law, Fred Gladu of Hawaii, Diane and son-in-law, George Maier of Newmarket, Ont., and Jackie McLeod of Winnipeg, Man.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Carrie Lagassé, Michelle Gladu, Christopher Maier and wife, Betty, Tracey Maier, Kimberly and husband, Pete Downing, and Laura and Dylan McLeod; six great-grandchildren, Réjean Lagassé, Teagan, Colby, and Hannah Maier-Downing, and Jackson and Emily Maier; sister-in-law, Blanche Chowan of International Falls, Mn.; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Pearl (Pete) Shperuk, Pauline (Walter) Esse, and Barbara (Alex) Bileski; and brothers, John (Mary) Chowhan and Bill Chowan.
Our mother was a member of the Royal Purple Lodge, where she was drill captain and a member of the catering committee for many years along with her dear friend, Vera Fedorchuk.
In 1970, after Jack’s passing, her sister, Barbara (Winnie) moved in with her and they became known as the “Ladies of 926.” Their combined families enjoyed many family gatherings over the years.
She will be lovingly remembered, especially by her family but also by friends and neighbours on Crowe Avenue, for her warmth, kindness, open heart, and sense of humour. Her great hospitality and fabulous cooking went hand in hand.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
