Ted Hayward, 89, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Ted was born Sept. 8, 1917 in Verdin, Man. to the late George and Helen Hayward. As a young man, he moved to Fort Frances, joining the Flinders Dairy. He worked at the dairy for more than 40 years, only leaving to join the army during WW II; retiring with its closing in 1979.
He served overseas for five years in the Canadian Army.
On June 3, 1939, he was united in marriage to Lois Colvin and they spent 45 years together before her passing in 1984.
Ted was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances and had participated in many dart tournaments over the years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being at the cabin on Jackfish Lake, as well as hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with the family.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen; wife, Lois, on May 17, 1984; granddaughter, Jamie Hayward; daughter-in-law, Wendy Hayward; son-in-law, Bill Drennan; brothers, Jack, Bob, and Ray; and sister, Gertrude.
Ted leaves behind his children, Myrna Drennan of Fort Frances, Ont., Jim of Winnipeg, Man., Don (Maureen) and Tom (Tammy) Hayward, all of Fort Frances, Ont., and Cheryl (Lester) Cosgrove of Thunder Bay, Ont; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Mitchell of Brandon, Man.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Cremation has taken place in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Friends are invited to join the family for a come-and-go tea on Friday Jan. 12, 2007 from 4-6 p.m. at the Woodbury Hall at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances.
