STANELY GORDON ELDER

Stanley Gordon Elder, formerly of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully in Ladysmith, B.C. with his wife, Eileen, at his side on Thursday, April 3, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Ontario on March 6, 1925, he was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Canadian Army overseas from 1942 until the war ended.
Stan joined the Department of National Defence in 1950 as a communications equipment tech., serving in the Northwest Territories and Yukon. He also served with the United Nations organization in the Congo, Israel, and many other foreign countries.
Stan retired from the Department of National Defence to work with External Affairs in Ottawa, and posts abroad, until 1980.
Stan loved camping, hiking, and marshmallow roasting. He enjoyed the challenge of learning and searching out word origins. He was always friendly, hard-working, helpful, interesting, and enthusiastic.
“A go-getter and a going concern to the end.”
He came to Ladysmith in 1999 and very quickly gained a large circle of caring friends.
Stan married Eileen (Bodaly) in 2001, and together they enjoyed gardening as well as many other wonderful experiences in the short time they had.
Stan will be sadly missed by all.
Lovingly remembered by his wife, Eileen; son, Martin (Debbie); and grandchildren, Celia, Leif, and Naomi; daughter, Mary (Bill) and granddaughter, Tashina; and also all of the Bodaly family.
A celebration of Stan’s life was held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in Ladysmith.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
