Mary Clarissa “Chris” passed away peacefully July 4, 2003 at the age of 92 at Lions Gate Hospital in West Vancouver, B.C.
Chris was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Linquist (June 30, 1996); only son, Arthur (April 2, 1998); parents, Mary Lavinia and Ted Sexton; brother, Fred; and sister, Jessie.
She is now lovingly remembered by her daughter, Georgina Tatomir; grandson, Marc Haslam (wife Marjan); great-grandson, Spencer; daughter-in-law, Brenda; brother, Arthur Sexton of Union Bay; sisters, Vera LaRocque and Ruth Anderson, and many nieces and nephews in Fort Frances, Ont.
Chris was born in Fort Frances, Ont. on March 29, 1911. After high school, she worked for five years at Eaton’s and in 1934 married Floyd Linquist. In 1947, the family of four moved to Hope.
She loved life, and brought her dedication and positiveness to this town through her many activities. Chris was president of the Hope Community Club and in 1956, when the building was sold to the Masonic Lodge, the members formed the Fraser Canyon Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a charter member of this auxiliary.
Chris also was a hardworking member of Jewel Rebekah Lodge #109 and served as Noble Grand and District Deputy.
Throughout Chris’ long life in Hope, her enjoyment of so many varied interests took her down a multitude of roads—travelling as often as possible, including many cruises with her husband, Floyd; working in town for Dyson’s Men’s and Ladies Wear and at the “She” Shop; belonging to a curling league; and because she was such an avid, talented bridge player, Chris formed the Aces High Bridge Club which ran for many years.
And there was always time for the beauty of simpler pleasures. She loved flowers, and she dearly treasured her family.
For those who knew and loved her, friends and family, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 2 p.m.
