SUSAN GORDON WILSON

On Sept. 14, 2003, with her family around her, Susan Gordon Wilson passed away peacefully at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, Ont. after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Susan and Thomas Geary, and Harold’s parents, Pearl and Frederick Wilson. Susie also was predeceased by her sister, Pansy; sister-in-law, Peggy Derendorf; and her beloved grandson, Renie Whiting.
Susie is survived by her husband of 47 years and best friend, Harold Wilson; their two daughters, Phyllis (Darryl) Eikre and Haroldeen (Tom) Bobrowski; and one son, Frank (Bergit) Wilson.
She also is survived by her five grandchildren, Dylan and Kayla Eikre, and Franklin, T.J., and Tia Wilson.
Susie also is survived by her sisters, Elsie Ball, Jean Geary, May Swartman, and Nellie Derouard; brothers, Jack, Mick, Hugh, and Ed Geary; and brother-in-law, Bill Wilson. She also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Susan was born Aug. 30, 1933 in Emo, Ont. She attended La Vallee School and Fort Frances High School. After graduation, she began working for the Department of Indian Affairs, where she enjoyed flying to remote communities in small bush planes.
In 1956, she married Harold Wilson and they moved to Kenora, where they raised their family.
Susan worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Town and Country Home Furnishings. Following this, she changed careers and moved to Ear Falls and Red Lake to assist her husband in running his two companies, R&W Timber and Skookum Bay Logging.
Susan recently celebrated her 70th birthday. Family celebrations were always a favourite time for her. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends as often as an occasion would allow.
Susan loved the outdoors, and she loved to camp and to travel. Her wanderlust took her to countless destinations throughout North America and beyond.
One month she could be found camping in Alaska and the next month on a Caribbean cruise.
During Susan’s 10-year battle with cancer, she taught us of the incredible resilience of the human spirit. She knew she was fighting a losing battle, but that didn’t stop her from being a good, kind, loving person always trying to help others.
She always said to her family, “Remember, love me but let me go.”
A memorial service to celebrate Susan’s life was held Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in Kenora.
Pallbearers were Laurence Derouard Jr., Albert Derouard, Glen Derouard, Bill Derendorf, Doug Derendorf, and Chad MacNeil.
In lieu of flowers, friends may choose to make a donation to the Renie Whiting Memorial Bursary at Lakewood Credit Union or the Lake of the Woods Hospital CT Scanner.
